About us

We are the Cardiff branch of Permanent Revolution, active revolutionaries committed to methods of struggle which empower workers. Our aim is a socialist society where production is geared to the needs of all, not the profits of a few. Such a society, unlike the old Soviet Union, must be under the direct democratic control of workers. We believe such a society will not come about without co-ordinated calls for action - a programme. We believe we need an international party to develop that programme and win the majority of workers to it. That party must be a model of the direct democracy we preach. As far as possible we practise collective decision-making, and all elected officers are accountable and recallable.

Capitalism is responsible for dividing us and oppressing minority groups. We utterly oppose discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexuality, age or disability.

Just as capitalism exploits workers, so it plunders and pollutes the environment uncontrollably. We believe the very survival of the earth now depends on its overthrow.

We want to see the left rebuilt. We are therefore opposed to the sectarianism, opportunism, dogmatism, reformism and cynical contempt for democracy which prevails on the socialist left. We aim to help build a revolutionary international that workers can trust.

Though Permanent Revolution was founded in 2006, our supporters in Cardiff have a long and proud tradition of keeping the red flag flying in South Wales, going back to our work in the Miners Strike, the Poll Tax rebellion, the Cardiff Three and other anti-racist campaigns, and more recently the campaign against the war in Iraq. In 2003 we were instrumental in setting up the Cardiff Social Forum, and two years later the Bristol Social Forum. For more details about our activities and politics, email cardiffpr@yahoo.co.uk.

“Every advance by human society can trace its origins to a revolution against oppression. Every setback can be traced to a victory of the exploiters over the revolutionaries. This equation is as valid in the world of social relations as Einstein’s more famous equation is in the world of physics. The solution is clear. The future progress of humanity now depends on the triumph of the working class revolution. Nothing else will do.”
